The computer had be acting up for a week or so, and suddenly it was over. It crashed and I lost all my files including some 3000 photos.
At least that is what I thought....... Then I remembered that I read in PCWORLD that you can recover lost files after you re-install windows.

* Start
* search (click)
* look for Files and Folders
* press View - on the top of the page
* click on Explorer bar and put a V at search
* click on all Files and Folders
*type in name - in my case "pictures"
* type in when lost, if you remember
* Search, - on the bottom
* when the lost file or folder is found, drag it to the desktop
(or try copy/paste)
I went through this routine and restored all my 3000 or so pictures

now buy an external harddisk, I did it too for in case of that (what you say) happens.
I was just going to mention exactly what Jo-Ann said to you, an external hard drive for storing those 'babies!'
