Now there's a bug

I photographed this bug in North Carolina in 2003. Not knowing what it was, I sent the picture to the University of Florida and I got a reply from someone who knows about such things. It turns out to be a CICADA TIBUCEN. This guy lives underground at the roots of trees, and comes out once every 7 years, sprouts wings and looks for mate. Something like that. Anyways it is pretty rare to see one that wants to have it picture taken! Posted by Picasa

They are really loud too!! In the summer time, the night is just filled with their sounds. Wonderful NC.
